Pardon me but I am in Mary (Ridderbusch)'s room while she is on rounds. I technically should be reviewing T.S. Eliot's The Wasteland and pondering the meaning of homosociality but instead I am listening to Fall Out Boy and drink Mountain Dew: Code Red.

I spent 20 minutes dancing away the blues today in my room to Rat a tat tat. They might be one of my favorite bands at the moment along with Broken Social Scene. Mostly because when I'm having a spontaneous overflow of emotion I don't want to speak through someone else's words. I want to dance through my own.

I'm not going to lie. I wanted to spend the weekend sulking and crying myself silly. Instead I spent most of my time doing things I don't get to do as much as I want to. Like sleeping. I had forgotten what it felt like to have a body that was refreshed and rejuvenated. Caffeine is great to force you to stay awake but by Osiris it feels good to actually listen to the rain with Uglydoll.

Uglydoll likes to be the little spoon.

Mary and I are about to watch High School Musical. Lame that I am excited.

My grandfather who has been dying since I was 5th grade is on his last leg. He has maybe a month tops and is holding out to see us.

He is selling his property in Washington which is kind of harsh. That property holds a lot of thoughts and choices. It may not be a place of fond memories but it remains a life setting.

I'm trying to process so much right now and I can't so I am just going to sleep.

Mostly, this update is in order to let Nate, Michelle, and Kim know what my school plans are for Fall term (you know in case you want to take classes with me)

J101 - MW 8:30-9:50
ENG 316 (Women and Film) - MW 10:00-11:50
SPAN 201 - MTWHF 12:00-12:50
J204 - TH 10:00-11:20

This means I will be getting up at like 7 on MW and 8:30 on TH and Friday will be beautiful with awaking at 10:30!

Feedback and all that jazz because I hate being in class alone!

I have made my way to the very farthest place you can possibly sit in class yet again. This is good.

I just changed Spanish 112 from graded to Pass/No Pass. Same credit load but I have even less work to do. No homework ever?

The project! [Mar. 31st, 2006|12:03 pm]

[Sing your life |You've Got A Way - Dj Encore]

So the other night I was watching Inked the other night at Kylie's house while she cleaned the fish tank and there was this woman who was getting a tattoo of the word runs on her foot. I was intrigued and she explained that she was taking part in Shelley Jackson's Ineradicable Stain project. Shelley Jackson wrote a short story called "Skin" and she tattooed the title on her wrist. She then got people to tattoo one word of her text on there bodies. At this point I was really excited because it was probably the coolest idea ever to think that you could become part of a text and be connect to thousands of people through the world through this text. I mean I would be connected to say a black woman in Mississippi or a John Deere sales man in Kansas all through this text. So I rush home and sign online and find Ms. Jackson's website only to be very disappointed. You see her goal is not to connect random people through a text but jsut to bring her words to life. She selects the individuals based on what she likes (basically you submit a resume to her) and then you become one of her words. She even goes as far as to say that you are basically a possession of hers and she only allows people who take part in the project to know what the short story says. I was pretty angry that she had taken an amazing idea and used it basically as a self glorifying publicity stunt. So I was explaining this to Blaire who said that he had in fact seen Ms. Jackson speak and felt that her entire project was centered on her and that he was not impressed. So I explained why I was upset and he said that I had to start a project of my own.

Every word in a text is connect to every other word in a text. If one word is missing the text is changed completely. The beginning cannot live without the ending. Every word is a part of the whole. So would it not be amazing if hundereds of random people all took a word from a text and became that word. They would be forever connected in a text. Each tattooed word would rely on every other word. Every word is crucial and a part of the whole. Every person who took a word would be connect to everyone else who took place in the project in the bond of a common text. Each word has a specific place in the text that may not be a apparent. Ineviatably you will meet some people who took place in the project and know how you related to them and that would further help you identify where you belonged in the text and while you have specific asigned place within the text your individual word is defined on your own. If you have the word "will" does that really mean what the text means or does it mean something more?

This entire project becomes sort of a metaphor. We all have some vague place in the world that we are not always sure of. We know where we should be but does that always mean that we are in that place? We are each just a person in the entire world just like a word in the text. All connected through very simple basic bonds.

So this is the project. I am going to try and publicize throughout the country using my contacts at several universities and try and get tons of people to each take one word and tattoo it on themselves in any place in a very basic book type set (Times New Roman, Baskerville. Courier) and then said me a picture. The details will be worked out later and everything in this process will be explained again. Words will be given to anyone in a first come first served basis. Oh, and I am going to write the text which is scary but Blaire is helping and it is coming along.

Give me feedback and ask questions because I need to work details out and your questions help. Also, if you want to help let me know because I can always use help.
